Transforming One Dollar Plates

Good morning and happy Monday!  I hope the weather is better where you are right now this morning....as it's raining here in Michigan.  My son and I usually head to our local indoor pool on Monday mornings and spend an hour splashing around....it's fun and provides some good exercise for the both of us.  I hope you had a restful weekend.

I found these gold plates at a garage sale for a dollar.  They are super light weight and are meant to hang on a wall.  I did not find them at all attractive when I bought them, but I love a good challenge and thought I could spruce them up.

I cleaned them up and then gave them a coat of Kilz primer.  After the primer had dried I painted a few coats of white semi-gloss latex paint.  I then antiqued them in a gray paint.....where I simply rubbed the paint on and wiped off the excess until I got the desired effect.  Here they are after.....what do you think?  Better before or after??

Make it a great Monday....

  1. These turned out awesome. It just goes to show you that you shouldn't just pass by something-look at it twice and use your imagination! I will have to think of that myself at garage sales.
